We are back with a brand new stormer of a selection from the man they call Iyer, who lands on Modern Ruin Records with his very well thought out ‘Third Culture Tamilian’ project, showcasing the perfect fusion of eastern instrumentation and footwork style rhythms.

Iyer kicks things off with ‘Extramarital, a collaboration with The Sine Painter which from the off shows itself to be a masterful display in vocal sampling, hearing traditional eastern vocal patterns slice together between smooth, punchy drum designs. This is followed up by the more classic juke structure of ‘Rahukaalam Rajini Rush’ which combines hushed vocal snippets with spacey chord expanses with ease.

Following this, we take the instrumentation to the streets of the east as we are greeted with pounding sub pulsations and clap double-ups of ‘Heartbreak Express’, topped with yet more precisely chopped horn sounds. This is then chased up by the fourth and final original ‘Joy and Suffering’, which perhaps showcases the widest range of sounds from start to finish, switching between male and female leads above smooth drumwork below.

Before we finish up, however, we are treated to one last surprise as Breaka steps into the hot seat to round everything off with his bubbling rethink of ‘Rahukaalam Rajini Rush’, overhauling the original creation with aquatic percussive punches and melodic piano breaths, leading into one hell of a wonky breakdown.
