BSN Posse returns to Modern Ruin with an emphatic and loving ode to the world of
footwork music.
The 'Drifting EP' spans 11 tracks, with notable remixers familiar to the imprint in Nikes,
Stayhigh, Sideswipe, Footmerc and Rootless. Newcomers Manul & Energyman contribute
the only non-footwork track in their remix of the title track - taking influence from rave days
of old juxtaposed against UK garage music.
The prolific duo of BSN Posse contribute 5 trademark yet experimental footwork originals.
'Soul Train' and 'M.Y.B' are both characterized by a vocal chop supported by uplifting and
melancholy melodies respectively.
'Hey, Break It Down' changes things up with a milder melody, carried to the end by a gritty
midrange and a catchy vocal. Stayhigh ups the ante with a hectic but skillful manipulation of
the original.
'About U' is vintage BSN Posse with the classic rhodes, accompanied ably by Sideswipe's and
Nikes' remixes. Sideswipe moves into half time while Nikes ventures between footwork and
into jungle and drum and bass territory deftly.
'Drifting' is the victory lap of the album, taking itself from start to finish with euphoric horns
and militant drums.
